Mr. Sujit Kumar Varma is an Independent Director on the Board of L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited. As a career banker he has a proven track record of leading diverse business departments and highly experienced in Corporate and Retail Credit, Trade Finance, International Banking, Risk Management and Compliance.
Mr. Varma served as the Deputy Managing Director, Corporate Accounts Group of State Bank of India, Mumbai and superannuated in 2021 after a long association with the bank for nearly 15 years. He also headed the Corporate Accounts Group Strategic Business Unit that houses the corporate and institutional banking relationships for the largest bank in India.
He has efficiently managed international operations of 198 offices in 37 countries with total assets of USD 60 Billion. He has also served on the board of several overseas subsidiaries of the Bank. He also spearheaded an Advances portfolio of INR 250 Billion in diverse sectors of mid-corporates in Mumbai.
Mr. Varma has also served SBI, Ney York as Chief Executive Officer and was instrumental in leading SBI’s largest overseas operations.
Mr. Varma has also served as an Officer on Special Duty at the Ministry of Finance for over 5 years. During his stint he advised senior officials of Department of Financial Services on a wide range of banking matters viz. capital raising plans of Public Sector Banks and provided inputs to senior government officials serving as directors on the boards of various public sector banks. He was also instrumental in compiling periodic review of performance for various public sector banks presented to the finance minister.
