POWER SUPPLY, TRACTION AND
SCADA SYSTEM

Power Supply and Traction System

Hyderabad Metro Rail operates on a standard gauge, fully electrified system with three elevated corridors powered through 25 kV, single-phase, 50 Hz overhead equipment (OHE). This ensures reliable traction power for smooth and efficient train operations. To minimize interference with communication lines, booster transformers are strategically installed along the corridors.

Receiving and Distribution Network

  • Receiving Substations (RSS) at Uppal, Miyapur, Yousufguda, and MGBS receive 132 kV power supply from APTRANSCO.
  • This supply is stepped down to 33 kV (three-phase) for station and depot utilities and 25 kV (single-phase) for traction requirements.
  • All RSS installations are Air-Insulated Substations (AIS), while Traction Substations (TSS) use Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) technology.
  • Auxiliary Substations (ASS) are provided at each metro station, depot, and the Operation Control Centre (OCC) to distribute 33 kV/415 V low-voltage power for signalling, telecommunications, communications, and MEP systems.

Overhead Equipment (OHE)

The OHE system incorporates sectioning posts, sub-sectioning posts, and paralleling posts at key intervals, facilitating safe and efficient maintenance of the traction network.

SCADA-Based Centralized Control

A Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, housed at the centralized Operation Control Centre (OCC) in Uppal Depot, continuously monitors, controls, and commands the entire power supply and traction network. This system enables real-time oversight, quick fault detection, and seamless operational control across the metro corridors.
